Early last week Arizona State sophomore running back Eno Benjamin was talking to junior teammate Nick Ralston, who was an offensive standout in high school but been used primarily at linebacker since arriving in Tempe.
Ralston indicated he'd like to go back to offense even if that role was as a blocker rather than ball carrier. Benjamin took that tidbit of information and ran with it, immediately texting running backs coach John Simon.
Simon says he had been thinking about the move but the text from his featured back helped the plan come to fruition.
It paid off as the Sun Devils (2-2) rushed for a solid 164 yards on 40 tries in Saturday's 27-20 loss at Washington in their Pac-12 opener.
